Introduction to the 2X TerminalServer client

What is 2X TerminalServer client

2X TerminalServer client is a gui based client which allows Linux or Windows clients to connect to the 2X TerminalServer or other NX based terminal services. Connections are done via ssh and can also have the connection encrypted via SSL. Connections with the client can be made over most types of internet connection including adsl and modems.

Installing 2X TerminalServer client

Step 1: Install the RPM

Open a terminal as root (super user). Change directory to the location where you downloaded the RPM from the 2X download site. Run the following command:

rpm -i 2xtermninalserver-1.5.0-106.i586.rpm

Step 2: Start the Client in KDE/Gnome

After the client is installed, start your desktop manager. Under the Internet program group you will find a new option for 2X.

Step 3: Using the 2X TerminalServer client wizard

Select the 2X TerminalServer Client for linux, this will start the wizard since this is the first time we have used the client. When the screen appears click next.

Step 4: Specifying the Session options

On this screen, we must give the session a name, the IP address or name of the server where 2X TerminalServer is installed and the port. Default is 22 (ssh). We must also specify the speed of the connection we will be using.

Step 5: Specifying the the type of Windows manager

On this page we specify what type of X-Windows Manager we wish to use, what type of session, eg RDP, NX (NX is used by 2X TerminalServer) and the size of the window we wish to open. We can also tick the ssl box, to enable encryption for the connections. SSL is enabled by default in 2X TerminalServer.

Step 6: Wizard completed

The final page in the session configuration, this allows us to create the shortcut on the desktop and if required to display the advanced configuration page. For the moment leave the defaults and client ok to end the wizard. A shortcut will be created on the desktop.
